Venue Spotlight: Samara Farms, WA.

musings and reflections from a sequim wedding photographer

Nestled in the Cascade Mountain foothills, about 30 minutes from Bellingham sits an idyllic storybook retreat called Samara Farm. From it’s one-of-a-kind gothic barn cathedral, to the 3 adorable treehouses to the abundant flower and vegetable garden, this place is straight out of your rustic outdoor wedding dreams. As a Sequim wedding photographer, this was a little off the beaten path for me and I feel blessed to discover this gem of a venue.

I traveled here from the Olympic Peninsula to capture Chelsea and Devin’s beautiful late September ceremony. With woodland camping available, we set up tents and weathered the friday night rainstorm only to be blessed with an absolutely gorgeous wedding day. The celebration was full of picturesque scenes, and heartfelt moments from the morning mist rising up towards the hills to flower arranging from the farm’s very own garden to the late night dance party amongst the moss covered Bigleaf Maples and fairy lights. There’s something about a moody Pacific Northwest fall day that can’t be expressed anywhere else in the world.

As a Sequim wedding photographer, I’m used to the dramatic Olympic Mountains, rocky coastal beaches and small town charm, but there’s a noticeably different feel to the Cascade foothills as if a wiser and more ancient pulse of the earth can be felt here.

I can tell this is the kind of place that’s just going to get better with time.
